Join Us: Celebrating Our Groundbreaking!

On Thursday, January 18th, 2024, the Renton Innovation Zone Partnership (RIZP) hosted the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Skyway Resource Center (SRC) in partnership with King County Housing Authority. With over 68+ guests in attendance, the ceremony started with guest speeches and ended with a traditional groundbreaking ceremony that included dirt, shovels, safety vests, and hard hats. In addition, attendees utilized a sledgehammer to extract parts of the bank building during a post-event activity. The ceremony began with nearly three years of planning through a guided community design process, and it marked the beginning of the first multi-service center in Skyway, WA.

Following this milestone for the Skyway community, the new Skyway Resource Center is set to open in November 2024, kicking off with a Grand Opening event.

Guest speakers included Rhonda Lewis (Office of King County Councilmember Girmay Zahilay), Bruce Siqueland (US Bank), Dan Watson (King County Housing Authority), Rebecca Zapata (Skyway Coalition), and Jasmine RaeLynn (RIZP).

VIP Guests who participated in the groundbreaking activity included Jasmine RaeLynn (RIZP), Rhonda Lewis (Office of King County Councilmember Girmay Zahilay, District 2), John Taylor (King County Department of Local Services), Bruce Siqueland (U.S. Bank), Robin Walls, (King County Housing Authority) and Geoff Anderson (Schemata Workshop).

***The SRC launched in September 2020 after a year of planning and in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, providing free resources to families that reside in Skyway/West Hill and the Renton Highlands communities. The Skyway Resource Center works with community-based organizations that provide tangible resources to meet the community's basic needs***
